It was announced recently that unauthorized users gained access to the systems of of Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), which operates in upstate New York. Excellus reported that the accessed data may have included members’ name, date of birth, Social Security number, mailing address, telephone number, member identification number, financial account information and claims information.
This incident may have affected members of other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans who sought treatment in the 31 county upstate New York service area of Excellus BCBS. Individuals who do business with BCBS and provided their financial account information or Social Security number are also advised to be aware of the issue and safeguard their information.
Excellus is providing affected individuals with two years of free identity theft protection services through Kroll, and credit monitoring powered by TransUnion. USI clients who think they may have been affected are advised to review Excellus’ website at www.excellusfacts.com.
