The holidays are supposed to be a cheerful time of year, but they can be a source of stress for many people. The gatherings and parties, family obligations, decorations, traditions, the endless to-do lists, traffic… it can be a little too much to handle sometimes. Now is a good time to step back and think about how to curb all that stress.
Try the following:
Keep your expectations modest. Let go of what’s supposed to happen and allow yourself to enjoy the moment.
Eat sensibly. Poor eating habits will only increase your stress and will reduce your ability to respond appropriately.
Exercise. Even just 10 minutes a day will do.
Give yourself a break. Does it really ALL have to get done? If it’s not an absolute yes, make it a no!
Forget the unimportant stuff. Let go of trying to make everything “perfect”. Simple things like spending some quality time with family and friends are more important and leave you feeling better than making sure you get the right decorations, the perfects gifts, and throw the best party.
